The cycle of violence started on August 28 after India won the Asia Cup T20 cricket match against Pakistan. The incident sparked a fight in Melton Road, Belgrave.

Over the weekend, violence erupted in Leicester involving youths from the Hindu and Muslim communities. According to British media, the violence began after an "unplanned protest" by Hindus sparked a "impromptu" gathering of Muslims in the same area where there are several Muslim-owned businesses and a Hindu temple.

According to reports, police stood between the two groups to prevent escalation of violence as several objects were hurled by both the sides.

On Saturday evening, a video was circulated showing a man pulling down a flag outside a religious building on Melton Road, Leicester. Videos circulating on social media showed a temple flag being ripped out. Police said the incident would be investigated.

"It's mostly young men in their late teens and early 20s and I have heard suggestions people have come in (to the city) from outside looking for an opportunity to have a set to. It's very worrying for people in the areas where this has happened," said Sir Peter Soulsby, Leicester city mayor.

At least 15 people have been arrested so far in the matter, ANI reported. A significant police operation will remain in the area in the coming days, BBC reported.
