Kolkata-Bound Bus 'Attacked' In Bangladesh, Passengers Face Anti-India Slogans: Tripura Minister

A Kolkata-bound bus from Agartala was allegedly attacked in Bangladesh, causing panic among Indian passengers. Tripura minister Sushanta Chowdhury condemned the attack and urged Bangladesh to ensure passenger safety.

A Kolkata-bound bus from Agartala was attacked in Bangladesh's Brahmanbaria district, causing panic among Indian passengers, Tripura Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said. The incident occurred on Bishwa Road and involved a Sahyamoli Paribahan bus, which reportedly faced hostility from locals.

Chief Minister Manik Saha addressed the issue, stating, "I have got information about a Kolkata-bound bus carrying passengers from Agartala coming under attack on Bishwa Road in Brahmanbaria on Saturday. I am trying to gather concrete information on the matter", news agency PTI reported.

Expressing concern over the safety of minority Hindus in Bangladesh, Saha remarked, "The whole world is witnessing how they are facing oppression in Bangladesh. Since our state is surrounded by Bangladesh on three sides, I have asked the BSF and the police to maintain strict vigil along the international border."

Tripura Minister Urges Bangladesh Interim Govt To Ensure Safety Of Indian Passengers

In a Facebook post on Saturday, Chowdhury had shared photos of the damaged bus and detailed the sequence of events. He stated, "The bus was maintaining its lane when a truck intentionally hit it. At this point, an autorickshaw came in front of the bus, and the bus and the autorickshaw collided." Following the collision, locals allegedly threatened the Indian passengers, hurled abuses, and raised anti-India slogans.

"I strongly condemn the incident and urge the administration of the neighbouring country to ensure the safety of Indian passengers," Chowdhury added.

The bus service between Kolkata and Agartala via Dhaka is a popular route as it significantly shortens travel time compared to the train journey through Assam, which can take over 30 hours. It also offers a more economical alternative to flights.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of Indian passengers travelling through Bangladesh.
