Joe Biden's Inaugural Speech: US President's First Address To Americans After Swearing-In

After Kamala Harris was sworn-in as the first woman Vice-President of the United States, Joe Biden took his oath the 46th president. Here's what the new American President spoke about.

Washington DC: After a lot of political drama and attempts to overthrow election results, Joe Biden has finally become the president of the United States with the new administration taking over. 

After Kamala Harris was sworn-in as the first woman Vice-President of the United States, Joe Biden took his oath the 46th president.

Joe Biden began his address by saying that Inauguration Day is a celebration of democracy and that "the will of the people has been heard".

"Today, we celebrate triumph not of a candidate but of a cause, the cause of democracy. The people and will of the people have been heard. We have learned again that democracy is precious, democracy is fragile and at this hour, my friends, democracy has prevailed," he said.

The 46th US President talked about the importance of unifying the United States, saying "my whole soul is in this" and requested Americans to come together to overcome the extraordinary challenges faced by the nation. 

"To overcome these challenges, to restore the soul and secure the future of America requires so much more than words and requires the most elusive of all things in a democracy, unity," Biden said.

"Uniting to fight the foes we face. Anger, resentment and hatred, extremism, lawlessness, violence, disease, joblessness and hopelessness. With unity we can do great things, important things," he added.

Biden also remembered his predecessors of both Democratic and Republican allegiance saying "I thank my predecessors from both the parties for their presence at the US Capitol today. I thank them from the bottom of my heart. And I know the resilience of our Constitution and the strength, the strength of our nation, as does President Carter, who I spoke with last night, who cannot be with us today, but whom we salute for his lifetime in service".

The newly sworn-in president also took a stance against White Supremacy by saying that it will be defeated along with domestic terrorism, "I want every American to join me in this cause".

Reiterating his call for unification and healing, he added that "I will be president for all Americans".

Joe Biden has tough challenges ahead as he not only has to deal with a raging Coronavirus pandemic but also the deep divide in the nation based on political affiliations and an infodemic caused by fake news and claims which recently tried to snatch away his claim to the presidency. Meanwhile, as the Biden-Harris team begins the new chapter, America celebrates with the hope of a new tomorrow.
