The Israel-Hamas war escalated with a large rocket barrage fired towards the Israeli city of Ashkelon. The IDF responded to rockets from Lebanon and Gaza with artillery fire.
Six rockets were launched from southern Lebanon into northern Israel on Tuesday evening, news agency Associated Press reported a Lebanese security official as informing. UNIFIL, the United Nations peacekeeping force in south Lebanon, confirmed the rocket attack and called for restraint during this critical period, AP reported. According to The Guardian, Palestinian militant group Hamas was attacking the Israeli city of Ashkelon with rocket fire. The group warned civilians to leave before the barrage began.
Israel's i24NEWS reported a rocket impact near the Israeli border with Lebanon. Rocket sirens blared on the northern border with Lebanon, it reported.

It said that rocket alert sirens were heard in the West Bank which is the farthest north that Hamas rockets have been launched so far. Egypt, which maintains ties with both Israel and Hamas, has intensified efforts to reach a ceasefire, according to the state-run MENA news agency. El-Sissi emphasised Egypt's commitment to establishing a "just and comprehensive peace" based on the two-state solution. - Russian President Vladimir Putin commented on the Israel-Palestinian conflict, attributing it to failed U.S. foreign policy. During talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Sudani, Putin stated that the conflict exemplifies the failure of U.S. policies in the Middle East. He criticised the U.S. saying it “tried to monopolize the settlement, but, regrettably hasn’t bothered to search for compromises that would be acceptable to both parties and, just the opposite, sought to enforce their own view of how it should be done, exerting pressure on both parties.”
The U.S. has failed “to take vital interests of the Palestinian people into account,” ignoring U.N. General Assembly resolutions for the creation of an independent Palestinian state, he remarked, as quoted by AP.
Putin also asserted that the creation of an 'independent sovereign' Palestinian state is a 'necessity', AFP reported.
- Israel Defense Forces (IDF) troops engaged in a firefight with Hamas militants near kibbutz Mefalsim on Tuesday evening. Multiple IDF troops on the ground confirmed the confrontation, as per CNN. CNN reported its personnel on ground hearing numerous exchanges of machine gunfire, indicating ongoing clashes between IDF and Hamas in the area.
