Indian Student Critically Injured In US In Car Accident, Urges Support To Meet Medical Expenses

Sahithi who was severely injured in the tragic accident in which the car crashed against a traffic light has undergone several surgeries.

An Indian student identified as Sahithi of the Northwest Missouri State University in the US met with a car accident on US Highway 71 earlier this month. She was travelling in the car as a co-passenger while her friend was driving the vehicle, reported news agency IANS.

Sahithi was severely injured in the tragic accident in which the car crashed against a traffic light. She was immediately rushed to emergency care at Mosaic Life Care in St Joseph, Missouri.

According to the doctors, Sahithi is suffering from an infrarenal aortic dissection, cervical spine fracture, small bowel perforation, omental injury and burst fracture of the L2 vertebra.

"She underwent several surgeries (small bowel and omental repair, aortic graft placement, laminectomy and reduction of the burst fracture with rods and screws along with fusion) at Mosaic Life Care and is currently in the ICU," said the victim’s cousin Jhahnavi Bheri to IANS.

Bheri revealed that doctors are unsure when Sahithi would be discharged from the hospital. She added that doctors were worried about the severity of her injuries and the complex surgeries that were done on the patient.

Speaking further on the matter, Bheri said, “Sahthi is facing several months of recovery and even then full recovery is all we are hoping and praying for”.

Sahithi, whose parents live in India is now seekig support from people on social media to help meet her medical expenses, reported IANS.

In another incident, a woman of Indian origin died on Sunday (March 5) in a plane crash in North Lindenhurst, New York while her daughter and the pilot were injured, reported 12 New Jersey, citing Suffolk County police.

The deceased was identified as Roma Gupta (63), and her daughter as 33-year-old Reeva Gupta. The Suffolk County police identified the pilot as Fayzul Chowdhury (23) who is now being treated at Stony Brook University Hospital.

According to police, the small plane with three people on board, including two ladies, took off at 2:18 pm from Republic Airport in East Farmingdale.

The Suffolk Police said it was a tourist flight and the single-engine Piper Cherokee plane's flight route revealed that it passed over the South Shore beaches. As per reports, the pilot reported smoke in the cabin and radioed Republic Airport air traffic authorities.
