Islamabad: It seems like Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has once put himself in the centre of a controversy and this time for calling 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden a 'shaheed' (martyr). While speaking during a session of Pakistan National Assembly earlier in the day, Khan said, "We were very embarassed...When Americans came to Abottabad and killed Osama bin Laden..martyred him." Osama bin Laden was the chief of global terror outfit Al Qaeda and was also the mastermind behind several terror attacks including the infamous 9/11 attacks on the United States in 2001.

During his speech, Imran Khan also openly said that Islamabad should have never taken part in the US-led war against terrorism. Further in his speech, the Pakistani PM also lashed out at the America and said that US forces entered Paksitan and killed Laden without informing Islamabad about the operation.

He said after the incident, everyone in the world started abusing Pakistan thereby causing embarrassment to the country. Khan also pointed out that 70,000 Pakistanis were killed due to US-led war on terrorism.

Soon after Khan's speech was shared on social media, it generated a massive furore with netizens trolling and criticising the Pakistan PM for his controversial remark. Here are some of the reactions:














Laden was a United Nations (UN) designated terrorist and was killed in a military operations by US Navy Seals on May 2, 2011 inside a private residential compound in Pakistan's Abbottabad where he lived with a local family from Waziristan.

The covert operation was conducted by members of the United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group (SEAL Team Six) and Central Intelligence Agency SAD/SOG operators on the orders of the then US President Barack Obama.
