Cairo (Egypt): Former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has passed away at a hospital in Cairo. He was 91.
The ex-president went into surgery on January 23, his son Alaa Mubarak had posted on Twitter.
He had ruled Egypt for 30 years before he was ousted in a popular uprising
Mubarak was found guilty of complicity in the killing of protesters during the revolution. That conviction was overturned after which he was released in March 2017.
