'Government At Your Doorstep': PM Modi's Initiative For Distressed Kin Of Children Stuck In Ukraine

Amid the growing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the officials said the Prime Minister has also instructed that any issues faced by these families must be addressed immediately.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday has instructed local officials to get in touch with the families of children who are stuck in conflict-ridden country Ukraine to assure them of the full support of the government as quoted by the news agency ANI.

Authorities said that Prime Minister has given directions that families whose individuals are as yet in Ukraine in the midst of increased tensions because of the contention circumstance should be reached by a representative of the government.

"To calm down anxious parents of those students who are still stuck in Ukraine, there are instructions from the Prime Minister that these families may be contacted by a representative of the government from the tehsildar, to the collector to even ministers to make sure that the families do not feel alone or feel any distress during trying times,” an official said

Amid the growing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, the officials said the Prime Minister has also instructed that any issues faced by these families must be addressed immediately.

They said the move was a strong message of support and part of an approach “to take governance to the doorstep of the citizens”.

They likewise said the Prime Minister has requested that his entire team to have "an all hands on the deck approach" to the extent that the evacuation of Indian residents from Ukraine is concerned.

Earlier, PM Modi instructed his four ministers to be posted in different countries of Europe to rescue the Indians trapped in Ukraine as soon as possible. 

Modi had given instructions to the ministers on Monday and all the ministers reached their allotted countries on Tuesday and started work for the safe evacuation of Indians. 

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia took charge in Romania. As soon as he reached there, Scindia held a meeting with the Indian ambassador at the airport itself and chalked out all possible help, food and lodging arrangements for the Indian students before boarding the flight. Similarly, Law Minister Kiren Rijiju has reached Slovakia. There he also took the lead. 

Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri has taken control of the whole system after reaching Hungary and VK Singh reached Moldova. There are about 8000 Indians in Ukraine at present. Of these, 4000 are being transported to the countries adjoining the western border and will be brought back by 26 flights in the next 3 days as per the government's plan.
