New Delhi: A Saudi woman recently hit the news after she stormed up a stage to hug a pop star, however, this stunt landed her in jail.

The woman faced charges under a new harassment law in Saudi Arabia and could face two years in prison and a fine of up to 100,000 Saudi riyals ($27,000) as per reports.

The video of the incident went viral instantly where the Burqa-clad woman can be seen running up to the stage and hugging the performer in the middle of his concert. The security personnel immediately caught hold of her and pulled her away from the singer.

The Iraqi singer Majid-al-Muhandis is a hugely popular personality across Gulf because of his love-songs.

As per foreign media reports, the woman had been arrested on Friday night for "criminal acts as per the anti-harassment regulatory act".

As per reports, the woman was attending Muhandi’s concert in the city of Taif in Saudi’s southwestern Mecca province.

The Iraqi-born singer who also has Saudi citizenship continued to perform after the incident.
