Pakistan: Ex-PM Imran Khan's Wife Bushra Bibi Falls Sick In Aidala Jail, Claims Her Sister

Bushra Bibi, wife of former Pakistan PM Imran Khan, became ill after consuming food provided at the Aidala Jail, where she is serving her sentence in the Toshakhana and 'un-Islamic' Nikkah cases.

Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, has fallen seriously ill after consuming food at the Aidala Jail, where she is serving her sentence in the Toshakhana and 'un-Islamic' Nikkah cases, according to allegations made by her sister, Maryam Riaz Wattoo, as reported by ARY News on Friday.

Wattoo expressed concern over the well-being of Pakistan's former first lady, claiming that her sister has been unwell for the past six days, unable to eat anything. Wattoo alleged that harmful food was provided to Bushra Bibi at the jail, emphasizing that home-cooked meals have been restricted. She has urged authorities to investigate the matter.

"We fear that Bushra Bibi is given some harmful food, and it is the authorities' responsibility to bring the perpetrators to book," said Wattoo, as per the report.

Wattoo added that her sister remains loyal to PTI founder Imran Khan and dismissed any notion that she would turn against him. "She is with Khan Sahib and will be with Khan Sahib forever," asserted Wattoo.

Concerns about Bushra Bibi's deteriorating health prompted the PTI to call for an urgent medical inspection on Thursday. Currently held at their Banigala residence declared a sub-jail, she and Imran Khan were convicted and sentenced earlier this month in the Toshakhana case.

A spokesperson for Bushra Bibi, Mashal Yousufzai, took to social media platform X to share the former first lady's distressing revelation. Yousufzai stated that Bushra Bibi claimed to have been given something akin to acid in her food, causing severe pain for the past five days. Yousufzai noted the urgent need for medical inspection, warning of a "serious threat" to Bushra Bibi's life.

In response, PTI's official handle on X accused the regime of maliciously attacking Imran's wife, denying her medical aid, and referred to the actions as a "fascist regime" stooping to a new low.

Earlier this month, Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were handed seven-year sentences each in the "un-Islamic nikah" case, following a plea filed by Bushra Bibi's former husband, Khawar Maneka. The court also sentenced the couple to 14 years with rigorous punishment in the Toshakhana case a few days before the verdict on the "un-Islamic nikah" case.
