'Forced Migration' Of Uyghur Muslims From Xinjiang In China Through Job Placement Company, Shows Study

The report stated that a Chinese company had floated an advertisement claiming that there were more than two thousand Uyghur workers available for contractual labour for a period of two years.

New Delhi: A new study by think tank Policy Research Group has revealed forced migration of Uyghur Muslims in China from the Xinjiang province, reported ANI. According to the study, this minority community of China is being forced into migration to other parts of the country through a Chinese job placement company. 

The report stated that the company had floated an advertisement claiming that there were more than two thousand Uyghur workers available for contractual labour for a period of two years. The company further claimed that all the workers possessed vocational degrees and were good at speaking Mandarin. 

Around 3000 workers were displaced to other parts of the country from Kashgar in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. 

The Policy Research Group said that these developments were in continuation to the ongoing conflict between the minority Uyghur group and the Chinese authorities. Fresh evidence of intimidation, harassment and surveillance of the Uyghur community had surfaced against China from the concentration camps in Xinjiang last month. 

A person named Guanguan travelled to the far western region of China in 2019 and recorded a 20-minute video. He returned in 2020 after reading a BuzzFeed article that indicated the location of some camps there. In his video, Guanguan said, "Due to the Chinese government's restrictions, foreign journalists can hardly gain access to Xinjiang to conduct interviews."

China has been criticised globally for its actions against the Uyghur Muslims. It has been rebuked for its mass detention camps' interference with religious activities, sending community members for some form of forcible re-education or indoctrination.

The United States declared China’s action against the Uyghurs as genocide earlier this year. Parliaments of Canada and the Netherlands also adopted motions recognising the Uyghur crisis as ‘genocide’. 

Recently, news agency AFP reported that the US lawmakers are supporting the idea for a diplomatic boycott of the Beijing Winter Olympics. The report stated that this move will help the US pave way to make statements against Uyghur crisis which the US has already termed as genocide.
