Paris: In a shocking incident, French President Emmanuel Macron was slapped on Tuesday in the face by a man during a visit to a small town in southeast France. The unprecedented act took place during President's second halt of a nationwide tour.


Soon the incident went viral on social media and Macron's office confirmed the video that is being widely circulating online.

In the video, French president can be seen greeting people waiting for him behind traffic barriers in the small town of Tain-l'Hermitage. He came to the town after visiting a high school that is training students to work in hotels and restaurants.


The entire incident was caught on camera where a man can be seen slapping Macron in the face and his bodyguards pushing the man away as the French leader is quickly rushed from the scene.

As per local media, two people have been arrested by the Police in connection with the assault. The reason behind man's action is yet to be ascertained.


Even the Frech President has not commented yet on the incident and continued his visit.


Macron, last week, started a political tour de France, seeking to visit French regions in the coming months to "feel the pulse of the country" as France is slated for its next presidential election in 2022 and is gradually reopening its pandemic-hit economy.
