United States President Donald Trump on Saturday thanked PM Narendra Modi over his tweet greeting him and the citizens of the United States of America (USA) on the nation's 244th Independence Day. US President Trump responded to PM Modi's greetings by referring him to as a 'Friend' and tweeting, "America loves India."

PM Modi had earlier tweeted, “ I congratulate @POTUS, @realDonaldTrump and the people of the USA on the 244th Independence Day of the USA. As the world’s largest democracies, we cherish freedom and human enterprise that this day celebrates.”

To which President Trump said, “Thank you my friend. America loves India!."

The two world leaders known to share a cordial relationship and close bonhomie, have often been seen referring to each other as “friends” on various bilateral and multi-nation platforms.

The US President also attended the July 4 American Independence Day celebrations in South Dakota. US Ambassador to India Kenneth I Juster also extended wishes to the Americans on the occasion of the country’s 244th Independence Day.

“From all of us at the U.S. Mission in India, we wish our United States of America a very Happy 244th Birthday! #IndependenceDay #4thofJuly,” Juster tweeted on Saturday.

Independence Day is annually celebrated in US on July 4 and is often known as "the Fourth of July". This year, however, cities around the US have cancelled their annual parades and celebrations as cases of coronavirus continue to rise.
