Biden To Meet President-Elect Trump For Transition Meeting On November 13
The meeting between the outgoing president and the incoming one is ceremonial and is seeped into decades-old tradition.
US President Joe Biden has invited President-elect Donald Trump for a traditional meeting at the White House on November 13, formally beginning the peaceful presidential transition. The meeting is held in the Oval Office and the outgoing president gives the president-elect a briefing about the key agenda of the country.
“At President Biden’s invitation, President Biden and President-elect Trump will meet in the Oval Office on Wednesday at 11:00 am,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement, according to a PTI report.
According to the Associated Press (AP), on Thursday, Biden said he had assured Trump “that I would direct my entire administration to work with his team to ensure a peaceful and orderly transition. That’s what the American people deserve.”
The president-elect is also given a tour of the White House, which Trump did not do when he lost to Joe Biden after the 2020 election. He also did not attend the swearing-in ceremony of President Joe Biden. A meeting is also held between the First Lady and the incoming First Lady. However, in this case, Trump, who was the 45th president of the United States, and First Lady Melania Trump are familiar with the workings of the White House and a presidential administration.
Trump, a Republican, sought the presidency again after four years, and on Tuesday he defeated Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee. The White House said Biden called Trump on Wednesday to congratulate him and invite him to the meeting.
Vice President Kamala Harris and her successor J D Vance are also scheduled to hold a similar meeting.
Trump was elected as the 47th President of the United States on Tuesday, a major comeback for a former president who refused to accept defeat four years ago sparking a violent insurrection at the US Capitol. Trump cleared the 270 electoral votes needed to clinch the presidency. Harris, called Trump on Wednesday afternoon to concede the race and congratulate him.
