In fresh incidents of violence against Hindu minorities, miscreants in Bangladesh vandalised eight idols in three temples over two days.

According to a report by the Daily Star, the incidents took place in Mymensingh and Dinajpur and police have arrested one person in connection with vandalism at one of the temples.

In the Haluaghat sub-district in Mymensingh, three idols of two temples were vandalised early Thursday and Friday. The miscreants ransacked two idols of Bonderpara Temple in the Shakuai union of Halugahat in the early hours of Friday, said Abul Khayer, officer-in-charge (OC) of Haluaghat Police Station.

No case has been filed and no arrests have been made in connection with the incident, he said.

In another incident, an idol was vandalised at Polashkanda Kali Temple in Beeldora Union of Haluaghat early Thursday. A 27-year-old man from the Polashkanda village was arrested by the police over his alleged involvement.

During interrogation, the man -- named Alal Uddin -- confessed to the crime, the OC said, adding he was sent to jail by a court in Mymenshingh.

On Thursday, Suvash Chandra Sarker, president of the Polashkanda Kali Temple committee, filed a case accusing unidentified persons.

On Tuesday, five idols were vandalised at Jharbari Shashan Kali Temple in Dinajpur's Birganj sub-district and the incident came to light on Thursday, as per the report.

"We've never seen such an act here," Janardan Roy, president of the temple committee said. The officer in charge, Abdul Gafur, said the incident was being investigated.

Last week, law enforcement agencies in the country arrested four people for vandalising and damaging a Hindu temple and houses and shops of the community in Sunamganj district in north Bangladesh.

In November, three Hindu temples were vandalised by a mob in Chattogram which witnessed violence and protests since a former ISKCON member was booked under sedition charges.
