Al Jazeera Engineer's 19 Family Members Killed In Israeli Bombing On Gaza's Jabalia Refugee Camp
Days after an Al Jazeera correspondent lost his wife and children to an Israeli air raid, the media company has confirmed that one of their engineers has lost 19 members of his family.
A broadcast engineer working with Al Jazeera's bureau in Gaza lost his 19 family members including his father, two sisters, eight nephews and nieces among other relatives in Israeli bombings on the Jabalia refugee camp in the enclave. According to an Al Jazeera report, Mohamed Abu Al-Qumsan, a broadcast engineer at Al Jazeera, lost 19 family members in Israeli air raids on the Gaza refugee camp on Tuesday. This comes just days after the media company's Arabic Gaza correspondent Wael Dahdouh’s wife, son, daughter and grandson were killed in an Israeli air raid.
Al Jazeera denounced the Israeli assault as a "massacre" and an "unforgivable act" in a statement on Tuesday.
"Al Jazeera vehemently condemns the heinous and indiscriminate Israeli bombing that has resulted in the killing of 19 family members of our dedicated SNG engineer, Mohamed Abu Al-Qumsan," the statement read.
It said, "This unforgivable act, during the Jabalia massacre, claimed the lives of Mohamed’s father, two sisters, eight nephews and nieces, his brother, his brother’s wife, and their four children, his sister-in-law, and one uncle."
As per the latest reports, the Israeli bombardment of Jabalia refugee camp in the besieged Gaza Strip killed over 50 people, according to Palestinian authorities. The attack injured more than 150 persons in the Strip where people have been struggling to survive amid the war.
Dahdouh, who lost his family earlier, said after seeing their bodies, "What happened is clear. This is a series of targeted attacks on children, women and civilians."
According to Al Jazeera, earlier this week, the family of a correspondent Youmna ElSayed received a phone call from a person who said they were with the Israeli military and warned them to leave their home and move south.
Palestinian authorities said that at least 8,525 people, including more than 3,500 children, have been killed in the Gaza Strip since Hamas' surprise attack on Israel on October 7. The Committee to Protect Journalists confirmed the death of at least 31 reporters due to the conflict. It said, according to the report, that 26 of the dead 31 journalists were Palestinian. Israel has said that number of hostages with the Palestinian militant group has increased to 240.
"We urge the international community to address this grave injustice with utmost urgency to justice served for the families of Mohamed Abu Al-Qumsan and countless other innocent Gazan civilians who lost their loved ones," Al Jazeera said in its statement.
Israel has moved to the 'second stage' of the war and launched a ground incursion in Gaza.
