New Delhi: Just a day after the controversial announcement of the withdrawal of troops from the war-torn country Syria, US made yet another major decision of pulling out of military from Afghanistan.
Citing a US official, news agency AFP reported that American President Donald Trump has decided to pull out a “significant number” of troops from Afghanistan.
US has as many as 14,000 troops in Afghanistan to support Afghan forces in countering terrorism.
The decision was made on Tuesday, the same time when Trump announced his decision that he wanted to pull out all of the US troops from Syria.
A day earlier, Trump said that the US does not want to play the ‘policeman for the Middle East’ as the country has to incur heavy loss of lives and resources protecting “others”. Trump said that the US gets “nothing” but spends precious lives and trillions of dollars protecting “others “who do not acknowledge the US’ role in Syria.
He took to Twitter and wrote: “Does the USA want to be the Policeman of the Middle East, getting NOTHING but spending precious lives and trillions of dollars protecting others who, in almost all cases, do not appreciate what we are doing? Do we want to be there forever? Time for others to finally fight....," he tweeted.
He added: "Russia, Iran, Syria and many others are not happy about the U.S. leaving, despite what the Fake News says, because now they will have to fight ISIS and others, who they hate, without us.”
He also put in words about the strength of the US military. “I am building by far the most powerful military in the world. ISIS hits us they are doomed!
The US’ decision of withdrawing troops from Syria was met with widespread opposition on Wednesday. Trump had announced on Wednesday that the goal of defeating IS jihadists in Syria has been achieved he was ordering the 2,000 US troops in Syria to exit the country.
Jim Mattis quits:
US defense secretary Jim Mattis stepped down from his post earlier on Thursday on grounds of differing views with the President. He said his views were no longer reconcilable with Trump's.
Trump’s decision runs on the contrary to the long-established US policy for Syria and the region and has miffed many of its international allies alike.
