One person was killed and at least six others were injured following a shooting in New York, US, on Sunday.

According to the Associated Press, the Rochester police arrived at a gathering at Maplewood Park around 6.20 pm after shots were fired and found several individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.

A person in their 20s was killed, and another person suffered a life-threatening injury. Meanwhile, five others suffered minor injuries and were hospitalised, police told AP. The identity of the person who was fatally shot wasn’t released as the family was yet to be notified.

Several police agencies, including the New York State Police, responded to the incident at the park. Rochester police confirmed that a party was taking place in the area at the time of the shooting.

In a purported video of the incident, people are seen enjoying a summer barbecue when gunfire suddenly rings out, causing them to flee.

Police told AP News that they didn't know how many people were shooting, adding that they were trying to gather as many witnesses as possible. The police didn’t have anyone in custody at the time of publishing this report.

Rochester is about 547 kilometres northwest of Manhattan.

Meanwhile, one person was fatally shot inside a shopping mall in a suburb of Baltimore and Washington on Saturday.

Authorities received a call about the shooting in the food court area of the mall in Columbia around 6.10 pm. Officers discovered 17-year-old Angelo Little dead from a gunshot wound, Howard County police told AP.

Police determined that the suspect left the mall following the shooting, and detectives believe the victim was targeted.

The mall was also the scene of a shooting in January 2014, when a man with a shotgun killed two people and then himself.
