While the counting of votes is underway for the 294 assembly seats in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress supporters have already begun celebrations in the state as the early trends show Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led TMC taking lead against the grand challenger Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress.
While the final results for all the 294 seats in West Bengal, that went for polling in eight phases, will be declared later today by the Election Commission of India, the early trends after 5 rounds of counting reveal that TMC has crossed the magic number. The current ruling party is leading on 208 seats while the saffron party is ahead on 80, and Congress on 2.

Noticing the lead, TMC supporters started celebrations. Several videos from Kolkata's Kalighat area and Asansol are making rounds on social media where TMC supporters can be seen flouting the Covid-19 rules and marking celebrations.
Taking a note of such incidents, the Election Commission of India has asked the State Chief Secretaries to take immediate action to stop such gatherings.
It is to be noted that the Election Commission of India had laid down strict instrictions and asked the concerned authorities to adhere by them. The poll body had put a ban on any victory procession.
