New Delhi:  Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain on Monday alleged that the national capital will soon run out vaccine stock and urged the central government to increase vaccine supplies. 


As quoted by several media reports, Jain while speaking to reports today said, "There is only one day of Covaxin left in Delhi and only three to four days of Covishield. We need vaccines at the earliest."

His statement came a day after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal claimed that the Delhi government can vaccinate all the eligible citizens of the national capital within three months if he gets nearly 85 lakh doses a month. he said that at present, about 1 lakh vaccine doses are being administered in the city every day but it needs to be increased to 3 lakh. 


In a letter to the Centre on Sunday, CM Kejriwal said that Delhi has a population of around 20 million, out of which, 15 million are aged above 18 years and hence eligible for vaccines. Some 50 lakh are above 45. He said that Delhi needs 3 crore doses for 1.5 crore people.


So far, the national capital has received roughly 50 lakh doses while about 2.5 crore additional doses are required.

In a press conference yesterday, Kejriwal said that after implementing the lockdown  cases in the national capital have reduced and the positivity rate of the city came down from 35 per cent to 26 per cent.


The Delhi Chief Minister said that though the cases have reduced, the brutal Covid wave is disastrous, therefore Delhi will continue to be under lockdown till 17th May, 5 am.
