Tirath Singh Rawat To Be New Uttarakhand Chief Minister, Heaps Praise On Predecessor Trivendra

Tirath Singh Rawat will be the new Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. This decision has been taken in the meeting of the BJP Legislature Party in Dehradun.

Dehradun: Tirath Singh Rawat is going to be the new Chief Minister of Uttarakhand after the dramatic resignation of Trivendra Singh Rawat yesterday. This decision was taken in the meeting of the BJP Legislature Party in Dehradun today. Trivendra Singh Rawat a day after stepping down from the post of Chief Minister, declared Tirath Singh Rawat as the new Chief Minister of the state. 

Reports say Tirath Singh Rawat was chosen because he has a clean image and has not been involved in coterie politics.

"We will continue to take forward the development works done by Trivendra Rawatji in the last few years. Never have I seen such development in the previous decades," Tirath Singh Rawat told BJP MLAs after he was chosen to be the next CM of the hilly state.

Rawat was chosen even as Union Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Uttarakhand Minister Dhan Singh Rawat were among the frontrunners to become the CM. 

Rawat will meet governor Baby Rani Maurya this evening to stake claim to form the government. 

Who is Tirat Singh Rawat? 

  • Tirath Singh Rawat was the state vice president of Uttar Pradesh Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.
  • He was the first education minister during the formation of Uttarakhand state.
  • After this he was elected as state general secretary of Uttarakhand in 2007 and after that state chief electoral officer and state membership chief.
  • In 2012, he was elected as legislative assembly member (MLA) and in 2013 he became Uttarakhand BJP Chief.
  • Tirath Singh Rawat was elected as member of parliamentarian from Pauri Lokasabha Seat on 23 May 2019. He defeated his nearest rival Mr. Manish Khanduri by mover 03.50 lakh votes.
