Punjab Police said that Bagga was served five notices to join the investigation, but Bagga did not cooperate in the investigation and did not turn up.

New Delhi: Amid the dramatic developments that drew in the police of three states and led to a BJP-AAP slugfest, Delhi BJP spokesperson Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga was arrested on Friday morning by the Punjab Police on charges of making provocative statements, promoting enmity, and criminal intimidation from his home. Punjab Police said that Bagga was served five notices to join the investigation, but Bagga did not cooperate in the investigation and did not turn up. According to the Punjab Police, a case was registered against Bagga in Mohali due to which he has been arrested.

Why Was Bagga Arrested?

A case has been registered against Bagga for making provocative posts on social media and making controversial remarks against Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. Kejriwal had given a statement regarding the Bollywood film The Kashmir Files, in protest against which Bagga reached Delhi's CM residence and demonstrated. Tejasvi Surya, President of BJP Yuva Morcha was also present during the protest.

- There is an allegation against Bagga of making controversial remarks against Arvind Kejriwal. After this, Bagga tweeted and said- Arvind Kejriwal, if you think that he will scare you by doing false cases, then this is your misunderstanding, by registering as many cases as you have the power, still will keep uncovering your poles in this way.

- According to Punjab Police, Delhi CM was threatened by Bagga during a protest on March 30 following which a complaint was lodged against him in Mohali.

- When Punjab Police was going to Mohali after arresting Bagga from Delhi, Kurukshetra Haryana Police stopped Punjab Police. After which there was a ruckus in three states over the arrest of Bagga.

- Bagga's father Preetpal Singh alleged that Punjab Police personnel punched him in the face and did not even allow his son to wear his turban before taking him.

- Preetpal Singh lodged an FIR with Delhi Police, claiming that a group of 10-15 Punjab Police personnel broke into their Janakpuri home, PTI reported. Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta accompanied Singh when he went to file the FIR at Janakpuri Police Station.

- The case was registered on a complaint by AAP leader Sunny Ahluwalia, a resident of Mohali, following the BJP leader's remarks criticising Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal over his statement on 'The Kashmir Files' film. 

- Following the arrest, the BJP launched a no holds barred attack on the AAP. Several BJP workers also gathered outside a police station and protested against the Punjab police's action.
