New Delhi: The health of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, convicted of fodder scam, is deteriorating and can be sent to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi today as Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) management referred him to AIIMS New Delhi, officials said on Tuesday as quoted by news agency PTI.


Dr Vidyapati, who heads the seven-member team of doctors formed by RIMS to treat Prasad, told PTI, "The medical board has recommended that Prasad be referred to AIIMS New Delhi as his condition has deteriorated. We have forwarded the recommendation to the jail superintendent."


His creatinine level is reported to have increased from 4.1 to 4.6. Considering Lalu's health, a meeting of the medical board has been called. After meeting the doctors of Reims Medical Board, has decided to send him to AIIMS. 


"Prasad's creatinine level has increased to 4.6, which was earlier at 3.5. Blood sugar and blood pressure have been fluctuating. The sugar level is hovering between 150 and 200 mg/dl," Dr Vidyapati said.


The ebullient politician suffers from multiple ailments, including renal problems.

"His kidney is functioning at 15-20 per cent capacity," Dr Vidyapati said.


Jharkhand IG, Prisons, Manoj Kumar, said, "The order has been given to shift Lalu Prasad to AIIMS, New Delhi. As per procedure, the jail superintendent, on basis of medical board recommendations, sought formal permission for shifting the convicted patient to another hospital."


Earlier, on February 21, Lalu Prasad Yadav was sentenced to five years in the Doranda treasury fodder scam. He was also fined Rs. 60 lakhs. This decision was pronounced by CBI Special Court Judge SK Shashi.


The Doranda treasury case was the biggest case of fodder scam. Lalu Yadav was named as the main conspirator in the fodder scam. It was said on behalf of CBI that when Lalu Yadav was the Finance Minister, Chief Minister, all this happened under his regime, i.e. it was all in his knowledge.
