Chennai: The petrol and diesel prices in southern metropolitan cities Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru have gone up today. In Chennai, Petrol has increased by Rs 0.17 to stand at Rs 96.23 per litre while In Hyderabad and Bengaluru, the petrol rates have gone up by Rs 0.28 per litre. In Hyderabad, the petrol price per litre is just Rs 1.52 short of 100 while in Bengaluru per litre petrol costs Rs 97.92


Diesel price is also on a rise as Chennai sees an increase of Rs 0.17 to be Rs 90.38 per litre while Hyderabad and Bengaluru see a hike of Rs 0.30 per litre. With this hike, the diesel price in Hyderabad stands at Rs 93.38 per litre and in Bengaluru, it is Rs 90.81 per litre

Based on the crude oil prices in the international market, the Government of India permits the oil companies to fix petrol and diesel prices. Accordingly, it changes on a daily basis which is called Dynamic Fuel Price


Just ahead of the Tamil Nadu elections, CM MK Stalin promised during the campaign that petrol and diesel prices would be reduced once the DMK wins the elections and forms a government in Tamil Nadu. The dip in fuel prices was also in the DMK election manifesto


MNM leader Kamal Haasan and MP Anbumani Ramadoss, among others, demanded a reduction in petrol and diesel prices. It may be noted that petrol and diesel prices have been skyrocketing for a few days now.
