New Delhi: The Income Tax Department has extended the deadline for linking PAN-Aadhaar, but now this service will not be available for 'free'. Till now taxpayers were not required to pay any money for linking PAN-Aadhaar. But now, if a taxpayer gets his/her PAN-Aadhaar link between 1 April 2022 to 30 June 2022, then they will have to pay a fee of Rs 500 and after that a fee of Rs 1,000.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the apex policy-making body for the Income Tax Department, has extended the last date for linking PAN-Aadhaar for a full year to 31 March 2023.

CBDT also issued a notification regarding this late in the evening on Wednesday. It is written in the notification that in order to reduce the inconvenience to the taxpayers, the time period for linking Aadhaar with the PAN card has been extended till 31 March 2023. This is the fourth time that the government has extended the last date for linking PAN with Aadhaar.

People whose PAN card has not been linked with Aadhaar till now, after this new arrangement of CBDT, will continue to work without any hindrance till March 31, 2023. In this way, from filing income tax returns to getting refunds, it can be used as before.

“However, till 31st March 2023 the PAN of the assessees who have not intimated their Aadhaar will continue to be functional for the procedures under the Act, like furnishing of return of income, processing of refunds etc,” the CBDT statement said.
