Hundreds of vehicles went underwater near the Ecotech 3 area of Noida, Uttar Pradesh, after the water level increased in the Hindon river on Tuesday. The entire area near Ecotech 3 was submerged due to the increase in the water level, reported news agency ANI. This came after incessant rain in north India left several low-lying regions in Noida and Ghaziabad inundated. Just a few days ago, authorities sounded a flood alert in the area low-lying areas of Noida and Greater Noida and undertook evacuation operations. On Sunday, (July 23), the Gautam Buddh Nagar administration issued a flood warning for low-lying regions along the Hindon as water discharge in the river increased, officials said on Sunday.
The officials also evacuated around 200 people from five villages and helped them move to multiple shelter homes. Additional District Magistrate Atul Kumar was quoted as saying by PTI: "Around 200 people from five villages have been evacuated and shifted to shelter homes that have been set up by the administration to provide them accommodation, food and health care.”
Meanwhile, officials said they pulled out the bodies of two boys from the Hindon River on Monday, reported PTI. Both of them had gone missing after slipping into the deep waters of the Hindon. Later, officials identified the boys as Adarsh (18) and 16-year-old Krish Mishra, who had been reported missing on Sunday from the Karhera village.
Maximum people in this village reside in homes constructed on the floodplains. Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Nipun Agarwal said a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team pulled out the two bodies, following a long rescue operation, reported PTI. Officials further said the floodwater is entering the village regularly even after the water levels are down in comparison to earlier. Currently, the NDRF team is pumping out the standing water in other nearby villages like Ataur Nangla village.
