Unable To Get Ambulance, Family Carries Body Of Deceased On Two-Wheeler

The family of a deceased in Maharashtra had to carry his body on a two-wheeler after they weren't able to find an ambulance in the remote area of Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district.

A family in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district tied the body of a 23-year-old man on a wooden cot and carried it on a two-wheeler as they weren't able to find an ambulance in the remote area. A district official claimed that the family of the deceased only had to travel a short distance with the body on the two-wheeler before an ambulance reached the spot. The deceased was a resident of Krushnar village in Bhamragadh taluka and was undergoing treatment for tuberculosis when he died at a private hospital in Hemalkasa on Thursday, news agency PTI reported.

As per reports, not being able to find any ambulance to move the body from the hospital, the family members fixed a wooden cot to a two-wheeler to take his remains home to conduct the last rites, reported PTI.

A senior district health official while talking to PTI said that the family could not contact the municipal or health department staff to arrange for a hearse or ambulance following which they decided to move the body on their own. He added that a police patrolling vehicle soon after spotted the two-wheeler following which he dialled the taluka health officer and asked the official to arrange an ambulance, reported PTI.

After this, an ambulance took the body to a government hospital for the completion of other formalities and then transported it 17 kilometres away to the place where the last rites would be held.

The report added that as soon as the health department was alerted, necessary assistance was provided.
