Bangalore: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today issued red and orange alerts for Karnataka after coastal part of the state experienced widespread rainfall.
The IMD said that the low-pressure area to form over West and Central region during next two days. Hence, the weather department issued orange alert on 9th, 10th, & 13th July. It issued red alert on July 11 and 12.
Further, Bengaluru is very likely to experience rain and thundershower during next two days, CS Patil, Director, IMD Bengaluru, said on Friday (July 9).
According to the IMD, orange colour indicates very heavy rainfall, and red colour shows exceptionally heavy rainfall.
With the escalation of southwest monsoon over the Arabian Sea and a low-pressure area to form over west-central and neighboring north-west Bay of Bengal around 11th July, rain shower over west and east coasts will get intense, as per the IMD forecast.
Reports suggest that increase in rain is expected to continue for the next 5 days. Moderate to very heavy rainfall is very likely over the coastal states of Maharashtra and Goa, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Karnataka, and Kerala.
As per the IMD, the hilly areas of Coastal, Malnad districts like Shivvamoga, Chikkmagaluru, Hassan and Kodagu district received deficit rainfall from 1st June to 7th July this year.
It also expected, many parts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai to receive rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms over next five days
