Chennai: A 25-year-old woman lodged a complaint against her husband for hiding his HIV-positive status from her and also for harassing her for dowry in Karnataka on Friday. The complainant said that she also tested positive for the virus after coming in contact with him.


According to a report on IANS, the woman gave a complaint to Basavanagudi Woman's Police Station against her husband alleging that he made her leave the home and snatched her jewels. She also alleged that he hid his HIV-positive status.

The police have lodged a case against a 35-year-old engineer in Basavanagudi based on the complaint of his wife. 


The victim, who is working as an accountant of a private firm, married her husband on March 12, 2018. The victim from the beginning started suspecting the man after he did not consummate the marriage citing stomach ache on their honeymoon. The man upon returning from the honeymoon also started harassing her for dowry.

He allegedly took lakhs of rupees from her father for taking up computer classes. 


After growing more suspicious, the victim started to check her husband's room when he was away and was shocked to find his report that said he was positive for HIV.


The woman told the police that she was not informed about his HIV status before marriage and she is still unsure of how her husband got infected by the virus. 


The police are conducting further investigations.
