New Delhi: The bounty on the elusive gangster Vikas Dubey has been increased to Rs 5 lakh rupees from the earlier 2.5 lakh. The history-sheeter was spotted in Haryana on Tuesday but escaped before the police could catch him. According to reports, Vikas had stayed at a OYO room in Faridabad’s Badkhal Chowk under a false identity. As per the hotel staff, Vikas had identified himself as Ankur and his presence in the hotel was captured through CCTV footage. It is suspected that he may have escaped in an auto or a taxi as he is no longer in possession of a car. Uttar Pradesh STF and Haryana Police are tightening the search for Dubey.

The police have been also been successful in capturing his close aide Shyamu Vajpai who was arrested in Chaubeypur area following an encounter on Wednesday. Another ally Amar Dubey was killed in an encounter Special Task Force (STF).

The police are also keeping a close watch at the borders in the hopes of nabbing the gangster. The hunt for Dubey sped up after the deadly Kanpur encounter in which eight Uttar Pradesh police personnel, including a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), were gunned down in a village near Kanpur city by the henchmen of gangster Vikas Dubey. The raid was carried out at 1 am in Bithoor area in Chaubepur.
