Jaishankar Calls For Zero Tolerance To Cross-Border Terrorism At BRICS Meet | Key Points

Jaishankar said the Ukraine war has increased energy demand and food prices, which must be controlled for the betterment of the world.

New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar with his counterparts from the five-member bloc took part in the BRICS Foreign Ministers meeting hosted by China via video link on Thursday and said BRICS must display zero tolerance for terrorism, especially cross-border terrorism. In the meet, he highlighted 8 key points saying that we should not only seek socio-economic recovery from the Covid pandemic but also build resilient and reliable supply chains.

Jaishankar also emphasised the war in Ukraine which is producing alarming cascading effects on a world economy already battered by Covid-19. Jaishankar said the Ukraine war has increased energy demand and food prices, which must be controlled for the betterment of the world. 

"Knock-on effects of the Ukraine conflict have led to sharp increases in the costs of energy, food and commodities. This must be mitigated for the sake of the developing world," he said.

"BRICS repeatedly affirmed respect for sovereign equality, territorial integrity, international law," he added.

Jaishankar additionally talked about pressing for dependable responsibility of resources by developed countries for environmental activity and environmental equity.

'We must not only seek socio-economic recovery from the Covid pandemic but also create resilient and reliable supply chains."

A globalized and digitized world will give due regard to trust and transparency, he said, adding reasonable advancement objectives should be drawn closer in an extensive way.

Besides Jaishankar, South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Naledi Pandor, Brazilian Foreign Minister Carlos Franca and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov attended the meeting which was chaired by China's State Councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
