Bengaluru: A video of a rider on a Yamaha R1 superbike hitting 299 Kmph went viral after which he got arrested for speeding and his bike was impounded. Bengaluru police proved road safety is not something to play around with, after arresting a man identified as Muniyappa. He rode his bike on the nearly 10 km long Electronic City flyover at a speed of almost to 300 Km/hour during the lockdown in the city. In the video, he can be seen dangerously zooming past some vehicles, including cars autorickshaws and trucks.

After his video of riding over the speed limit went viral, the Bengaluru police tracked him down, impounded his superbike, filed a case of reckless riding, and arrested him.

Sandeep Patil, Joint Commissioner of Bengaluru City Police shared the video on Twitter talking about the dangers of reckless driving.

“This video made viral by the rider.. going at a dangerous speed of almost 300 kmph at Ecity flyover putting his own & others life at risk..CCB traced the rider & seized bike Yamaha 1000 CC.. handed over to traffic.. #drivesafe.. @CPBlr @BlrCityPolice”


As most people stayed indoors due to the lockdown imposed by the government to contain the spread of coronavirus the roads were mostly empty. Taking advantage of this, the man decided to ride his superbike. Yamaha’s R1 is flagship model, it is a 1,000cc supersport which has peak power of 200 PS at 13,500 RPM. It is one of the fastest production models in the world and costs over Rs 20 Lakh in India.
