New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended an event on the ‘Save Soil Movement’ today on the occasion of World Environment Day. He also addressed the people present at the event. 


During his address, he said that despite not being responsible for carbon emissions, India is working towards improving the environment. He added that an example of the same is India's resolution to decrease India's carbon emissions by 2027. 


He further talked about India's initiatives towards soil health. he said that more than 22 crore soil health cards have been given to the farmers which have helped them improve soil quality and consequently the quality of grains and food.  


Talking about soil health he said 'Per Drop More Crop' referring to the need to provide adequate water to crops and no over-irrigation. 


He further said that India has increased its forest cover by 20,000 sq Km. It has not only increased forest cover but also increased the number of different species of wild animals. 


PM Modi also talked about natural farming and the initiative of Namami Gange which was started to restore the river Ganga. 


During his address, he also announced that India has achieved its target of blending 10 percent ethanol into petrol and that too five months prior to its timeline. He said that it reduced 27 lakh tonne carbon emission with a saving of Rs 41 crores of foreign currency. He added that it helped farmers to earn more than Rs 40,000 crores.


He also talked about 'green jobs' and said that India's work towards the protection of the environment, India is increasing green jobs.  


He also set a target to make 75 crores of 'Amrit Sarovar' by next year to ensure water security which would help prevent soil and improve biodiversity.


On Saturday, PM Modi tweeted, “Looking forward to attending the session on crafting a #ConsciousPlanet with @SadhguruJV at 11 AM tomorrow, 5th June.”






As per a press release by the PMO, ‘Save Soil Movement’ is a global initiative to increase awareness about deteriorating soil health and bring about a conscious response to remove it. 


The press release added, “The movement was started by Sadhguru in March 2022, who embarked on a 100-day motorcycle journey passing through 27 countries.”


June 5, which is celebrated as World Environment Day, also marks the 75th day of the journey started by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev.
