New Delhi: Dwarka DCP Shankar Choudhary was removed from duty with immediate effect by Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana on Saturday after his alleged participation in a commotion at a south Delhi bar, news agency PTI reported.


During a private birthday party on Friday night, a woman was injured in the head by a shattered glass. According to a general journal post, her spouse afterwards phoned police and claimed that the deputy commissioner of police (DCP) was involved.

The officer's identity was later mentioned by the woman as a result of a "miscommunication." She said in a video that the issue was personal and had been settled.


A preliminary inquiry in to the matter has been initated by the Police. 


"Shankar Choudhary, IPS:2011, is hereby relived from his duty as DCP/Dwarka, Delhi with immediate effect and directed to report to Police Headquarters for further orders." Asthana's office said in an issued order.

The police got information at Greater Kailash police station that a DCP-rank officer of the Delhi Police had abused a woman during a birthday celebration in a private club in Kailash Colony.


The woman was hurt after a shattered glass fell on her, according to the police. The name of the DCP came up because to a misunderstanding.


The incident has been handled because it was a family affair, according to the police.
