A woman Indian Air Force (IAF) officer, who is also a Squadron Leader, was left severely injured after a mess worker allegedly attacked her. The incident took place at the officer’s official residence in Pathankot district of Punjab, said police on Tuesday. They further said the accused, identified as Makhan Singh, got entry into the officer's house in the Pathankot airbase Friday night and wanted to commit robbery. At the time of the incident, the officer was asleep and woke up when she heard some noises.
After waking up, she tried to confront the intruder but Singh attacked her with a knife, causing her multiple injuries, said Pathankot Senior Superintendent of Police Harkamalpreet Singh Khakh, reported news agency PTI.

Meanwhile, the authorities have already arrested Makhan Singh. Speaking about the matter, a police official said the woman officer was alone in the home during the time of the incident. Notably, another woman IAF officer, living in an adjoining quarter, who went to the victim's residence found her in an injured condition and called for assistance, as per the police.
After this, the woman was immediately taken to a nearby hospital and later referred to the Army's Command Hospital in Haryana's Chandimandir. The police said they arrested the accused with the help of CCTV footage and charged him with an attempt to murder.
After confirming that Singh lived near the victim’s house, the authorities also said further investigation into the case is underway.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, at least six persons were killed and many others sustained injuries after a speeding container truck hit a jeep in which they were travelling in Maharashtra's Thane district on Tuesday, news agency PTI reported. The deceased have been identified as Chinmay Shinde (15), Riya Pardeshi, Chaitali Pimple (27), Santosh Anant Jadhav (50), Vasant Dharma Jadhav (50) and Prajval Firke, the police said.
According to an official from the police control room, the jeep, carrying some students and other persons, was proceeding from Padgha towards Khadavli railway station when the truck coming from the opposite direction hit it. The jeep got dragged for about 100 metres and overturned, the official further said.
