New Delhi: As the hearing against the revocation of Article 370 is underway in the Supreme Court, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chief and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday said that people of this country have faith in the apex court. Referring to Hindu mythology 'Mahabharata', she wondered whether the top court will play the role of Lord Krishna or Dridhrashtra in this case.
Speaking to reporters, Mufti said, "We have hopes from the Supreme Court that it do justice. Our struggle does not end here. Our struggle will continue," reported news agency ANI.
A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, and Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul, Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai, and Surya Kant is hearing the matter.
On Wednesday, she had said that the promise made by Indians to Jammu and Kashmir natives in 1947 was on trial in the Supreme Court in which “fortunately” they still have some faith. “This country cannot be run on majoritarianism. This country will be run as per the Constitution.”
The PDP leader had said that it is for the top court and the people of India to see whether the country will be run according to the Constitution or "as per the divisive agenda of a particular party".
The top court has been hearing the pleas challenging the abrogation of Article 370 that bestowed special status on the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Centre had on August 5, 2019, come out with the notification repealing Article 370, stripping the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir of its special status.
Several petitions challenging the abrogation of the provisions of Article 370 and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, which split the erstwhile state into two union territories - Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh- were referred to a Constitution bench in 2019.
