New Delhi: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jairam Thakur on Tuesday opened up about the recent setback faced by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in bypolls and also spoke on whether the state will witness a leadership change over the same.

Speaking to news agency ANI, CM Jairam Thakur said: “No doubt that poll results in the state weren't as expected. There was a nominal difference in the number of votes. If we see the Mandi polls results, it’s the lowest ever margin. Several things are coming up as to where did we lack but we are not in a hurry”.

In Himachal Pradesh, BJP faced a setback as Congress won three Assembly seats that went to bypolls on October 30. Congress also won the Mandi Parliamentary constituency.

Talking about BJP’s plan of action in wake of the loss, Chief Minister Jairam Thakur said: “We will review this. Based on the feedback we get, a plan will be made. There’s still some time for 2022”

“Wins and losses happen even when the government is in place. It had happened earlier too. We will leave no stone unturned to ensure that BJP comes back to power in the state in 2022,” he added, as quoted by ANI.

When asked whether Himachal Pradesh will witness a cabinet reshuffle or change in leadership following the state bypolls results, Jairam Thakur replied: “I don’t want to say a lot on this. Central leadership’s decision will be accepted by everyone. So far I’ve not received any such indication from them”.

He further stated that he will give them a report to the Central leadership and discuss the situation with them.

“Party will decide its next course after the review,” he added.

In the recently announced bypolls results, while BJP swept the contest in Assam, Trinamool Congress secured wins in West Bengal and Congress got a boost in Himachal Pradesh.
