Petrol Diesel Price: Following the outage against rising fuel prices, PM Modi's government decided to give Indian's a Diwali gift by reducing excise duty on petrol and diesel prices. At the same time, several BJP-ruled states also reduced VAT on petrol and diesel.
On the other hand, BJP has taken a jibe at opposition parties for not reducing VAT on oil prices in their respective states. In Maharashtra too, no decision has been taken so far to reduce VAT on petrol and diesel. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad has made a statement on the issue.
The veteran politician said, "We would have to talk to the state government on this issue. They will definitely provide some relief on Petrol and Diesel prices, but the center should also give GST compensation to the state at the earliest. We can only help people of the state after this happens."
Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia slammed the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maharashtra government for not reducing VAT on petrol and diesel in the state.
"A Maha Vasuli Aghadi rules Maharashtra. Petrol is at Rs. 110 per liter and Diesel is at Rs. 87 per liter. Maharashtra has Rs. 31.19 as VAT on petrol," Bhatia said.
As a relief on oil prices on Diwali, the Central government announced reduction in excise duty on petrol and diesel.
Excise duty on diesel has been cut by Rs. 10 per litre and on petrol by Rs. 5 per litre. The Central government also urged the states to reduce VAT on petrol and diesel. Soon after the request, VAT reduction was announced in several BJP-ruled states like Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Karnataka, Goa, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh.
