New Delhi: The authorities on Friday closed the 85-km-long Bandipora-Gurez road for vehicular movement after fresh snowfall at Razdan Pass.


Snowfall in the area started late last night as predicted by the weatherman.

Due to fresh snowfall in Gurez and at Razdan Pass, the only road link connecting Gurez with the rest of the world has been closed for traffic movement.






Meanwhile, Gurez SDM Dr. Mudasir said that the valley has received at least three inches of snowfall since late last night.


He informed that the Razdan Pass, located around 12000 feet above sea level, has received at least 8 inches of snow, due to which the road has been closed for vehicular movement.


Officials on Friday said that many areas in the higher reaches of Kashmir received fresh snowfall, while some parts in the plains were lashed by light rains.


Snowfall started in many areas in the higher reaches of Kashmir early in the morning, they informed, as reported by PTI.


The fresh snowfall was witnessed in Machil and Tangdhar areas of Kupwara, Gurez in Bandipora district, the famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in Baramulla, Sonamarg in Ganderbal, and some other high altitude areas.


Meanwhile, Some areas in the plains of the valley received light rainfall.


The MeT department had forecast light rains or snowfall at isolated to scattered places in the valley on Friday. The weather is expected to stay mainly dry for a few days from Saturday.
