The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is leaving no stones unturned in giving a tough fight to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the West Bengal electoral battle, has fielded domestic help Kalita Majhi from the Ausgram (SC) seat.


Kalita Majhi, whose husband works as a plumber, did not get the opportunity to study due to financial constraints. BJP workers are extremely happy with the party high command’s decision to pick Kalita Majhi as the candidate from the Ausgram (SC) seat in the eastern part of the Burdwan district.


BJP’s National General Secretary BL Santhosh congratulated Kalita Majhi and said the party “always recognizes talent and hard work”.



Kalita Majhi has a son named Parth, who studies in Class VIII. The BJP candidate, whose parental home is at Kashemnagar in Mangakot, has a family of seven sisters and a brother. Her father, who worked as a daily wage earner, is no more.

The BJP has also fielded another lady named Chandana Bauri, who works as a daily wage earner, from the Saltora assembly seat in the state’s Bankura district. She is among the poorest candidates in the elections. Chandana Bauri’s husband is also a daily wage earner, who manages to earn around Rs 400 per day. She also helps her husband in his work. Chandana Bauri is an active party worker and a senior member of the BJP’s district unit.


Polling for the 294-member West Bengal Assembly will be held in eight phases beginning March 27 and ending on April 29. The results will be declared on May 2.
