West Bengal: Man lynched on suspicion of being child lifter
The 35-year-old man was tied to a post and thrashed by the mob over his alleged involvement in the kidnapping of children for organ harvesting.
Malda: A man was allegedly lynched by an enraged mob on suspicion of being a child lifter, at Bulbulchandi in Malda district, police said today.
The 35-year-old man was tied to a post and thrashed yesterday by the mob over his alleged involvement in the kidnapping of children for organ harvesting, a police officer said.
He was rescued by police but succumbed to his injuries en route to hospital, the officer said.
Three persons have been detained in connection with the incident and are being questioned, police said.
"There have been rumours of child abductions circulating on the social media for the past few days, and we are trying to keep them at bay," the officer said.
The lynching comes close on the heels of a similar incident in Assam, where two men were pulled out of their vehicle at Panjuri in Karbi Anglong district on June 9 and beaten to death by irate villagers, who suspected them to be child-lifters.
