Fire Near Multi-Storey Building

The restaurant where the fire erupted is next to a multi-storey building on Park Street. As the fire raged, thick smoke and flames were seen coming from the restaurant. The facade of the eatery was partially covered with tin sheets that were destroyed in the fire.

Office workers and residents from nearby buildings evacuated to the street as efforts to douse the fire began.

Firefighters have brought the blaze under control, but they continue to work as the cooling-off process is ongoing, said West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services Minister Sujit Bose. "Our people are working. The reason is not yet clear. Forensic investigation will be conducted," he said, as quoted by ANI.

As part of their investigation, the authorities will check if the restaurant owner complied with safety norms and regulations.
