Massive Fire At Sanitary Napkin Factory In Thane, No Casualties Reported

Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation disaster management cell official Raju Warlikar said the fire started at the factory around 3 am on Tuesday.

A major fire broke out at a factory in the Saravali Industrial Area in Thane's Bhiwandi taluka in the early hours of Tuesday. A PTI report quoted a civic official as saying that no casualties were reported in the factory, which manufactures sanitary napkins. 

In a video shared by ANI from the area, massive flames can be seen billowing out of the large factory building.

Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation disaster management cell official Raju Warlikar said the fire started at the factory around 3 am.

After receiving information about the fire, Warlikar said, fire trucks of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) as well as from Thane and Kalyan-Dombivli rushed to the scene. The fire had been brought under control by 8.30 am, he added.

Bhiwandi Fire Brigade Officer Pramod Kakade said, "The fire broke out in a factory situated in Saravali village... The incident happened at 3.00 am." At the time he spoke to the media, the efforts to douse the fire were underway. "Once the fire is doused, then we will be able to calculate the loss," he said.

The raw material stored in the factory was gutted, he added, saying cooling operations were underway. The PTI report said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
