The minister initially asked him to keep quiet, but got agitated after the man repeatedy advised him to start serious campaigning. The alleged incident took place on Sunday at the BJP office in Ranikuthi area in Toliganj constituency where the Union Minister of State for Environment, Forests and Climate Change had gone to participate in the Doljatra festival.

According to the BJP sources, the man was asking the BJP leader to do a serious campaign in his constituency. After several provocations, Supriyo got angry and lost control.

"Some people come from the other party and try to act 'Mir Jafar' and some behave like 'Vibishan', while some move from one party to another for messing up things. Even after that man provoked me, I kept my anger under control," said the leader later.  Trinamool Congress spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said that his party wanted to know whether the person slapped by Supriyo was an outsider of the Trinamool Congress or a Vibhishan (a BJP member). Meanwhile, BJP state president Dilip Ghosh said that Supriyo was simply agitated and touched the man, but nowhere did he intend to hurt the person.
