The India Meteorological Department on Sunday predicted heavy rainfall in several states across the country over the period of the next five days. It said states like Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and some other regions will witness very heavy rainfall in the next five days. The department also predicted heavy rain in central and adjoining eastern India also in the next five days. Moreover, the rainfall will increase over the west coast as well.






Earlier on, Sunday, the Director of the Meteorological Department, Dehradun, Vikram Singh said, as quoted by news agency ANI, “There is a possibility of more rainfall in Uttarakhand on July 16 and 17. For today, a red alert has been issued in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri and Haridwar districts and an orange alert has been issued for the remaining districts. There will be a slight reduction in rainfall on July 18.”


IMD in its prediction issued an orange alert for Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand for 16 and 17 July. It said Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and East Uttar Pradesh will witness heavy rainfall for the next two days. The department also added West Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan will receive heavy rain for the next four days, and West Rajasthan es predicted to witness the rain on July 18 and 19.


Moreover, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad will receive rainfall on July 20. The weather department also said isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall will also be witnessed over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and East Rajasthan.


Meanwhile, widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall is expected to make landfall in some parts of Odisha, Andaman and Nicobar Islands this week, said the IMD. In addition to all of this, heavy to very heavy downpours will also be witnessed in parts of Jharkhand and Odisha.


States like Bihar, West Bengal and Sikkim will also experience isolated thunderstorm and lightning in the next twenty-four hours. East Madhya Pradesh is expected to witness isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall from July 16 to July 18. Meanwhile, West Madhya Pradesh and Vidarbha will see rainfall on July 16 and July 18, and rainfall will also lash Chhattisgarh on July 16 and July 17.


Meanwhile, Goa and Konkan areas along with central Maharashtra are expected to witness isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on Monday, said IMD in its weather bulletin.


Northeast India also will witness isolated heavy rainfall and thunderstorm in states like Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, etc in the next five days. States like Karnataka, Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Kerala will also witness light to moderate rainfall in the next five days.
