New Delhi: The India Metrological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall to continue over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and other states on Tuesday. Delhi is also likely to witness cloudy skies with light rainfall on Tuesday and Wednesday while the rest of the week may remain partly cloudy skies.


Delhi records second highest rainfall in October


Light rainfall is expected to continue on Tuesday and Wednesday, and the rest of the week may remain dry, the IMD forecast said. Delhi has recorded 121.7 mm of rainfall so far in October, the second highest in the month in 16 years. The incessant rains over three days brought the temperature down in the national capital, with the maximum temperature settling at 23.6 degrees Celsius on Monday, 10 notches below normal. The minimum temperature was recorded at 19.2 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season’s average.

The maximum temperature in Delhi to hover at 24 degrees Celsius on Tuesday and 25 degrees on Wednesday. However, it will be back to around 30 degrees by October 15, according to the weather department. The minimum temperature on Monday was recorded at 19.2 degrees, said IMD.


Delhiites also breathed the cleanest air on Monday incessant rain. According to Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) in the city was 44 at 4 pm. It was 48 on Sunday, 56 on Saturday, and 55 on Friday.


Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to receive showers


Heavy rainfall spells are likely to continue over Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar during next 24 hours and then rainfall activity is likely to decrease significantly.


The rainfall in the NCR region is triggered by a western disturbance and a cyclonic circulation and easterly winds bringing moisture to the region. The cyclonic circulation lies over Rajasthan and the neighbourhood, according to an IMD update on Tuesday.


Heavy showers are also expected to continue in Tamilnadu and Rayalaseema region during the next five days and over interior Karnataka and Telangana during the next two days.


Conditions are very likely to become favourable for the withdrawal of southwest monsoon from some more parts of northwest & central India during the next four-five days.


Heavy rain is predicted over major parts of Karnataka for the next five days with a yellow alert for coastal, north and south interior for 12th. The rainfall is owing to a cyclonic circulation over north Tamil Nadu and neighbourhood which extends up to 1.5 km above mean sea level, the weather department said.


The weather department predicted isolated very heavy rainfall predicted over Arunachal Pradesh on Tuesday.
