Weather Update: Arrival Of Monsoon Brings Respite In Southern Part, North India To Reel Under Heatwave
Heatwave conditions are expected to prevail in isolated pockets of Delhi, Haryana, northwest Rajasthan, and Himachal Pradesh till June 15, a Skymet Weather report said.
The Southwest Monsoon arrived in Mumbai on Saturday, June 11 along with some parts of Konkan, Goa, and Maharashtra. The conditions for the Southwest Monsoon to advance towards West Central India and Northwest India towards the Bay of Bengal are favourable currently. It indicates that the Southwest Monsoon may advance towards Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Westcentral India by June 12-13.
The arrival of the monsoon also indicates the high probability of rainfall in the northern Himalayan region, West Bengal, Sikkim, Northeast India, some parts of Kerala, Karnataka, Konkan, and Goa. The rainfall may vary from low to medium intensity and high intensity in some regions.
Some parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Vidarbha, Marathwada, Tamil Nadu, and south Chhattisgarh may also receive light to medium rainfall.
Parts of Punjab and Haryana may face duststorms today with isolated thunderstorms.
The heatwave conditions in Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh are likely to prevail today as well.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Delhi’s temperature settled at 43.8 degrees Celsius, four notches above the normal, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The minimum temperature settled at 29.7 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal, it said.
According to the IMD, partly cloudy skies with thunder, lightning, and strong surface winds are expected in Delhi in the next few days but no major respite from the heat is likely till June 15.
