WATCH: Tejashwi Yadav Pays Surprise Visit At Patna Medical College, Finds Hospital Head Missing

While inspection, Yadav saw patients lying on the floor of the veranda (corridor) of the hospital with dirt and medical waste strewn all around.

New Delhi: Bihar deputy chief minister and health minister Tejashwi Yadav Tuesday paid a surprise visit to the Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH), Gardiner Hospital and Gardanibagh Hospital for inspection on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. During his visit, he was exposed to the "worsening" state of the hospital. Several patients complained about the lack of basic facilities such as medicines and clean toilets. He assured them of action against the defaulters and said that loopholes will be fixed.

While inspecting, Yadav saw patients lying on the floor of the veranda (corridor) of the hospital with dirt and medical waste strewn all around. The cadavers were not placed properly at the mortuary in the hospital and stray animals were seen roaming inside the premises.

A senior doctor was unavailable at the PMCH during the night. Instead of the health manager, nurses were seen discharging their duties. The superintendent reached the hospital soon after Tejashwi's visit.

One of the senior doctors, whose duty begins at 10 pm ate his dinner after his duty began and was gone for a 3-hour break. He also noticed that the authorities were not aware of the number of medicines that were available at the hospital and the arrangement was poor.

"There were no medicine arrangements or hygiene. Patients were not being provided facilities & negligence was seen. There was no attendance & people were lying; their lies were caught... We'll oversee everything", Tejashwi Yadav told ANI.

"We inspected PMCH, Gardiner Hospital and Gardanibagh Hospital. The doctors were present in two of the hospitals. The condition of the Tata ward in PMCH is bad to worse. I got the information that people from various districts come here for treatment. I wanted to see what the problem is, be it related to the doctor or medicines," he added.

Taking note of the complaints from patients, Tejashwi assured that the state government will "mend all the loopholes".

"I called the superintendent and said that it is his responsibility. There was no roster, no attendance was done. The lie was exposed. Action would be taken. Our government will mend all the loopholes," he told ANI.
