New Delhi: In a display of unity, political parties in Meghalaya came together keeping up with the festive spirit at a pre-Christmas party hosted by Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh on Tuesday where rival leaders sang Christmas carols leaving behind their differences.


Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma joined the state's leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh and senior MLA Charles Pyngrope for singing on the occasion.

Lyngdoh led in singing the carol 'Felis Navidad' and others including the state TMC chief Charles Pyngrope joined in.






"Was delighted to join Hon'ble Speaker, Hon'ble Leader of Opposition & Hon'ble MLA in singing the #Christmas carol at the Pre-Christmas Celebration joined by our colleagues. #Meghalaya sends its Christmas blessings to each of you," the chief minister tweeted.


Others who attended the party are Congress Legislature Party leader Ampareen Lyngdoh, cabinet ministers Kyrmen Shylla and Sniawbhalang Dhar.


An official of the Assembly Secretariat said the pre-Christmas party was organised to bring together the legislators of different political parties during the festive season, according to news agency PTI.


The crowd at the open-air event where state ministers and MLAs joined for a pre-Christmas celebration can be seen dancing and cheering as the leaders sang.


Conrad Sangma has earlier surprised everyone with his rendition of Bryan Adams' evergreen hit "Summer of 69" at an event in Arunachal Pradesh's Itanagar. The video had garened huge 'likes' and 'retweets' on Twitter.


Sangma is known for his passion for music and have been often spotted playing electric guitar. Last year, he had uploaded a video where he was effortlessly seen playing Iron Maiden's Wasted Years. The caption read, "After a hectic 3-day Assembly session, unwinding with some Iron Maiden stuff. It's been a long while I haven't played, so I guess a few mistakes..."
