Vishwakarma Jayanti is celebrated widely in the eastern states of India like Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Tripura but it is also celebrated in Uttar Pradesh and the neighboring country, Nepal. In many places, it is known as ‘Kanya Sankranti’ or ‘Bhadra Sankranti’, it is calculated as per the ‘Bisuddhasidhanta’, on the last day of Bengali Bhadra month ‘Biswakarma Puja’ is celebrated.
The festival is primarily celebrated in factories, where the staff members offer prayers to the machinery. Aside, from which, carpenters, engineers, sculptors, mechanics, welders, smiths, etc, all offer prayers to their tools and machinery. It is a way of paying respect to their field of work and is also believes to bring a safe and prosperous future.
Rituals for the day
On this day, prayers are offered to Lord Vishwakarma and also to Lord Ganesha and Vishnu. After cleaning your prayer room, take a wooden chowki, and cover it with yellow cloth. Idols of Lord Ganesha, Lord Vishnu, and Lord Vishwakarma are kept on it. Offer prayers to Lord Ganesh and apply vermillion or Kumkum tilak on the idols. Offer flowers and incense. Bhog of vegetarian dishes can also be offered. Finally, do the aarti.
